It has been a while since I have written something on this blog…I did not think I would get struck by writer’s block so early into starting my new project – a.k.a “Those Who Tell Stories”. You know, truth be told, my writer’s block is what gave me the idea for this post…
Sometimes the hardest part about developing a marketing campaign is where to start. You know what the problem is, but to find that great idea to solve it, is not always as easy as it might seem. From my experience, just put pen to paper. You don’t have to start off with a great idea – even if you start off in the wrong direction, writing down bits and pieces, but I can guarantee that something positive will come out of it.
Remember that when you write down your ideas for a marketing campaign, you are in a sense making it become part of a real solution. Read back what you’ve written so far and just ask yourself, “Does it work?”; put yourself in the shoes of your customer and ask yourself if you would react to such a campaign scenario. If you stumble over something as you read through your ideas, just rewrite it. The first draft of any story (campaign) is always going to be ugly. You just need to persist and keep on working on it – the masterpiece will eventually reveal itself.
The moral of my writer’s block is that everything starts with a dot. No matter your idea for a marketing campaign, always write it down! You can at any stage go back to your ideas and review them. You never know when one of those ideas could turn into one fantastically successful marketing campaign.
